In Cottbus the intervention took place in the neighbourhood of Sandow, the city’s most densely populated district, founded in the GDR to house miners. University students in partnership with local actors have built an urban beach with a big trampoline next to the river. Also the firemen and a team of volunteer workers dismantling temporary flood protection after the June flood, collaborated on the construction of the new urban space dispensing sand bags. The sand was used to build the beach as well as the urban garden. Responding to the needs of the involved actors, a passage to the waterfront, a dock and rafts were built to better experience the river. The BTU University has received a one-year concession from the municipality to develop the project further.
